Mercedes-Benz Vans presents Urbanetic

With Vision URBANETIC Mercedes-Benz Vans presents a revolutionary mobility concept that goes way beyond existing ideas on autonomous vehicles. Gerd Reichenbach, Head of Strategy Mercedes-Benz Vans, presents the highlights of the Vision URBANETIC.

A self-driving chassis

It’s a mobility concept for the future that could fundamentally transform the concepts of mobility and the quality of life in cities all over the world. The visionary concept is based on a self-driving, electrically powered chassis that can take different switchable bodies for people moving or goods transport

People moving and goods transport

Vision URBANETIC eliminates the separation between people moving and goods transport and enables on-demand, sustainable and efficient movement of people and goods. With the autonomously driving chassis and its different interchangeable bodies, Mercedes-Benz Vans addresses different target groups and enables unprecedented flexibility, efficiency, and maximum economy. The aim of the concept is to transport more people and goods with fewer vehicles on almost unchanged road infrastructure to relieve city centers and at the same time meet continuously growing mobility requirements and customer wishes.

Zero emissions

The battery-electric drive of URBANETIC delivers zero-local-emissions mobility, thus making it a good vehicle for city centers and areas subject to legal access restrictions. The electric drive and autonomous driving open up options for late or night delivery and it becomes possible to drive into urban areas without noise pollution and CO₂ emissions.

The system architecture of the autonomous Vision ensures continual route adaption using real-time traffic information. The operator’s fleet management is also part of the IT-system. The result is a self-driving fleet, with routes planned flexibly and efficiently on the basis of current transportation needs.
