Peapod Digital Labs taps Deliv to expand US same-day delivery options

Peapod Digital Labs, the digital and eCommerce engine for Ahold Delhaize USA, announced that it is partnering with leading crowdsourced logistics company Deliv to help their US brands extend same-day grocery delivery in select markets. The partnership with California-based Deliv will start with supporting the Giant/Martin’s brand in providing same-day delivery solutions in certain markets where only next-day service is currently available.

JJ Fleeman, President of Peapod Digital Labs and Chief eCommerce Officer of Ahold Delhaize USA: “At Peapod Digital Labs, it is our mission to support each of Ahold Delhaize USA’s local brands in providing an industry leading omnichannel experience for their customers. This means being there for customers, anytime, anywhere – within hours. Through our relationship with Deliv, we will assist the brands as they continue to conquer the last mile, and rapidly scale same-day delivery to the benefit of millions of local brand shoppers by 2020. Deliv is an example of many partners we will work with to deliver this benefit to customers.”

Giant/Martin’s home delivery business, Giant Direct, Powered by Peapod, is now offering customers 1-hour delivery windows, as soon as four hours in advance, through a pilot available to customers in select zip codes in the Pennsylvania, area. To take advantage of same-day delivery shoppers complete their order as usual via Peapod.com and select a 1-hour delivery window at checkout. Specially trained shoppers then handpick the order and customers can track their orders and receive notifications when their groceries are on the way. When the Deliv driver arrives, he or she reviews the order with the customer.

The pilot is expected to be scaled in the coming months to additional markets and to other US brands’ markets where delivery is powered by Peapod.com. The partnership with Deliv is the latest example of innovation at Ahold Delhaize USA, including recent announcements about self-driving grocery vehicles and the rollout of nearly 500 robots.
