New Direct Vision Standard and HGV Safety Permit Scheme in London

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) and HGV safety permit scheme for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) require operators of lorries over 12 tonnes of gross vehicle weight to obtain a safety permit before entering and operating in most of Greater London.

If you hold an existing HGV safety permit for a zero, one, or two-star rated HGV, it will expire at midnight on 27 October 2024. Your zero one or two-star rated vehicle must have the Progressive Safe System fitted to operate in London from 28 October 2024. You can find out what the Progressive Safe System requires in the DVS Guidance

Vehicles registered outside the UK with more than 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight entering or operating in most of Greater London must also hold a valid permit. You can apply for a permit on this website in the same way as UK operators do.
